Award Winning Work
2019 Losos Prize for Innovation
JCLC was honored with the Losos Prize for Innovation at the 35th annual Parents as Teachers International Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. This award is given annually for developing new solutions to address specific needs in a community.
JCLC was awarded this prize for developing the Teenage Education and Motherhood program to students of Jamestown High School and home visiting to young parents in Chautauqua County.
Parents as Teachers
JAMESTOWN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

This program for parents with children in UPK 3 or UPK 4 at Love Elementary School emphasizes parent engagement in the classroom. Parents and children learn together and share activities such as story time, music, art, and language literacy. Family events take place throughout the school year and are organized by the UPK teachers and the JCLC PACT Parent Coordinator.

PACERS is a fun-filled and developmentally appropriate program for families with children in UPK to 4th grade. These experiences are offered through monthly home or school visits by a JCLC home visitor who serves as a family’s educational partner. PACERS also offers parent engagement programs which link families with school and community services.

This program helps “EASE” the transition from elementary school to middle and high school by partnering with parents to become advocates for their child’s educational experience. Parents and teens engage in fun activities that promote communication and academic development. Families learn about community resources and other opportunities for success.

TEAM supports teen parents who are working to obtain a high school diploma. Through the Parents As Teachers (PAT) curriculum, teen parents learn about each stage of their child’s development, parenting skills, and how to become their child’s first and best teacher. TEAM includes two personalized visits a month, group activities, celebrations, and connections to other agencies in the community.

ASA is a unique after-school learning program for English Language Learners (ELL) in K through Grade 4 at Love and Ring Elementary Schools. The program focuses on language and literacy skills through fun and developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Snacks are provided each day during the program. Family night events are held throughout the year where parents and children learn together with activities, story-time, arts and crafts, and more.
Chautauqua county SCHOOLs
Using the Parents As Teachers (PAT) model, JCLC home visitors in various Chautauqua County school districts offer individualized, interactive early learning experiences for the young siblings of school-aged children. During monthly home visits, Parents engage in fun-filled and developmentally appropriate activities with their child. The program also provides opportunities for developmental screenings, group activities, and connections to community resources. This PAT program operates in Frewsburg, Falconer, Fredonia, Dunkirk, Pine Valley, Silver Creek, Sherman, and Southwestern school districts.
Community Based Parents as Teachers
Our Community-Based Parents As Teachers (PAT) program operates year-round throughout Chautauqua County. It serves families with children ages birth to 6, providing twice-monthly home visits, child development resources, and developmental screenings which connect families to services and help children achieve milestones. JCLC home visitors provide individualized, interactive activities for parents and children to enjoy at home, including story time, arts and crafts, and more. The program also creates social, group opportunities that connect parents and children with other young families.
Healthy Families Chautauqua
The Healthy Families Chautauqua home visiting program matches parents with knowledgeable and caring workers who provide information and support during pregnancy and early childhood. Services include helping families access community resources, educating families on parenting and child development, connecting families with medical providers, and assessing children for developmental delays.
