Jamestown Community Learning Council

Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher

We work with children, parents, and schools to enhance child development and school achievement using the evidence-based Parents as Teachers Home Visiting Model.

About Us

About JCLC

The Jamestown Community Learning Council was created in 1990 after research concluded that a child’s performance as a student begins before he or she ever enters a classroom. JCLC was established to encourage parents to support their children so that they may improve their chances of educational success.

JCLC Programs

The Jamestown Community Learning Council serves parents and their children from Birth to Grade 8. All JCLC Programs incorporate the evidence-based Parents as Teachers (PAT) home visiting model, designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent participation in developmentally appropriate early learning activities.

Mission

Jamestown Community Learning Council

Our mission is to strengthen the capacity of families to nurture, support and provide for their child’s academic development, emotional growth and physical well-being by establishing effective relationships between home and school.

About JCLC

Our Goals

To meet our mission, Jamestown Community Learning Council has established these five goals:

1.

To create a school environment that is responsive to students and their families.

2.

To improve student outcomes by establishing the school as the base for providing education, health, nutritional and other support services to students and their families.

3.

To provide a developmental and enriched program of instruction that stresses prevention rather than remediation.

4.

To design organizational structures that will develop shared working relationships within schools and among participating agencies.

5.

To bring about reform and community renewal through new connections, collaborative relationships, and support from parents, public and private sector organizations, institutions, and agencies.

JCLC leverages the

PAT Home Visiting Model

Parents as Teachers (PAT) builds strong communities, thriving families and children that are healthy, safe and ready to learn by matching parents and caregivers with trained professionals who make regular personal home visits during a child’s earliest years in life, from prenatal through kindergarten.
